Identifying conserved polychaete molecular markers of metal exposure: Comparative analyses using the Alitta virens (Annelida, Lophotrochozoa) transcriptome

چکیده

Polychaetes are vital for evaluating the effects of toxic metals in marine systems, and sensitive molecular biomarkers should be integral to monitoring efforts. However, few polychaete markers that exist inconsistent, even within same species, failing identify gene expression changes metal-exposed animals incurring clear metabolic costs. Comparing previously characterised metal-responsive genes with those another carefully selected species could applicable across polychaetes. The ragworm Alitta virens (Sars, 1835) is particularly suited such comparisons due its dominance fully saline coastal areas, widespread distribution, large biomass, phylogenetic position relative other ‘omic’ resources. A transcriptome atlas A. was generated an RNASeq-qPCR screening approach used characterise response chronic exposures environmentally relevant concentrations copper zinc controlled mesocosms. Genes presenting dramatic were compared known polychaetes new possible assess currently used. This revealed some current probably abandoned (e.g. Atox1), while others, as GST-Omega, caution, different appear upregulate distinct GST-Omega orthologues. In addition, give indication induced by metal exposure phylogenetically divergent polychaetes, including a suite haemoglobin subunits linker chains play conserved roles metal-stress response. Although newly identified need further characterisation, they offer alternatives plainly insufficient.

Mesoderm patterning and morphogenesis in the polychaete Alitta virens (Spiralia, Annelida): Expression of mesodermal markers Twist, Mox, Evx and functional role for MAP kinase signaling

Mesoderm represents the evolutionary youngest germ layer and forms numerous novel tissues in bilaterian animals. Despite the established conservation of the gene regulatory networks that drive mesoderm differentiation (e.g. myogenesis), mechanisms of mesoderm specification are highly variable in distant model species. Thus, broader phylogenetic sampling is required to reveal common features of ...

Polychaete species (Annelida) described from the Philippine and China Seas.

The South China and Philippine Seas are among the most diverse regions in the Western Pacific. Although there are several local polychaete checklists available, there is none comprising the whole of this region. Presented herein is a comprehensive list of the original names of all polychaete species described from the region. The list contains 1037 species, 345 genera and 60 families; the type ...

Ammonia excretion in the marine polychaete Eurythoe complanata (Annelida).

Ammonia is a toxic waste product from protein metabolism and needs to be either converted into less toxic molecules or, in the case of fish and aquatic invertebrates, excreted directly as is. In contrast to fish, very little is known regarding the ammonia excretion mechanism and the participating excretory organs in marine invertebrates. In the current study, ammonia excretion in the marine bur...
